The large town and temple complex at Selinunte, at the southeast corner of Sicily, was mostly built in the
6th C BC. It was conquered by Carthaginians and largely destroyed in 409 BC, and what remained was
demolished by an earthquake around 700 AD. Temple E, the only one standing, was restored in 1927.
