The ancient citadel of Mycenae, mainly built from 1350 to 1200 BC (long before classical Greece) gave its name to the entire civilisation. These massive constructions were said in ancient Greece to only have been possible if built by huge one-eyed Cyclops. The beautiful findings (such as gold masks) are in Athens (see earlier photos) while the on-site museum has reproductions.
