Countryside on a scenic back-road route to Toledo. Toledo was the capital of Catholic Spain for centuries, and until 1492 was a relative haven of cultural tolerance – hence lots of beautiful Mudéjar (Moorish-style) craftsmanship and two very old and lovely former synagogues among many other attractions. As a result there are loads of tourists, many of them day-trippers from nearby Madrid.
