Salamanca actually has two cathedrals – when the old one (12th C, Romanesque) got overcrowded, instead of tearing it down or building a new one elsewhere they built the much larger new one (16th C, Gothic) connected to it. This is the lovely entrance to the new one (though we mostly preferred the old one).
