This explains that in 1532 a treaty signed in Vannes united Brittany with France, with provision for
Breton autonomy that was ended by the French Revolution in 1789. Written Breton looks strange,
but the spoken language is quite close to Cornish and Welsh – Welsh speakers can converse with
Bretons, even though the writing is very different.
